I’m having my first rehearsal with the full cast tonight so they will begin learning the choreo tonight. My choreography will include 3 genres of dance modern, contemporary, with a splash of hip-hop. The movement contain various ”lines” and “shapes” as well. My goal is for the dancers to express vulnerability in their movement as well as their emotions/feelings. My costumes will be very comfortable with a “nonchalant“ attitude added on to it. I was thinking of having their costumes be neutral colors, such as black, grey or white. The dancers will wear black tights/leggings with an oversized t-shirt (grey/white). Im thinking of filming this dance in the Black Box Theatre. Filming will contain of low/high/wide angles, close ups and will also be filmed in a continuous circular motion. For lighting, I’m still imaging what will be best for the piece, and that will definitely be figured out as time goes on and I see how the choreography looks on my cast. Maybe that will help me envision what that may be.
Edit: here’s the link to my rehearsal with the cast

First of all....GREAT JOB!!! Your movement is continuous and continue to flow right into each other. Its keep the audience glued and focus into the piece. I know you say you want to film in a circular motion, you should somehow display you dancers on a angle like a diagonal and see how this movement looks so far. Make sure the dancers dont cut off the movemen niether, you dance really big and with alot emotions. Make sure your dancers portray the same.
Great job for this being your first piece, from being in your dance make sure your dancer have a focus point and really portray that’s emotion. Your movement is fantastic (🐐) and I cant wait to see how the rest of the pieces is going to be
I saw a solo, so a solo sticks in my mind. At some point, can you switch things up to solos from group dancing – if it works for your concept? I see each dancer doing the same movement phrase as a solo, and then, you edit each one together as a single phrase, a simpler version of how Micheal Jackson morphed the faces together at the end of the 'Black or White' Video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F2AitTPI5U0
– performing one phrase edited together with different dancers.
Musically, keep in mind the copyright restrictions with YouTube. You certainly don't want your video blocked and all of your hard work not seen. I hope that you will remix the music choices and even create some of your own.
Keep working hard. Play with multiple filming ideas through the gimbal...especially the circular effect as well as the auto dolly, having it travel in a circle. The circle light that you can check out has a stick that attaches to the auto dolly for mid-level shots.
Great Job!! I enjoyed what you have so far. You do a great job mixing the three genres you mentioned together quite well. I can't wait to see what else you have in store.
