Great work here! I absolutely love the energetic and dramatic vibe from this piece. The movement is very fluid but also with sprinkled sharpness to it which I think, coupled with music, really sends out strong self-assured energy. I love it!
Looking at this and how it can be translated to film, I believe that moving shots are the best bet for you. Whenever the dancers moving I think having the camera move with them, follow them, or move in a single direction will really capture the energetic vibe in this. Although, the sharp movements should be accompanied by still shots with either close-ups or fully body shots with very sharps movements.
For your music, I think it works perfectly with your movements, and I only have one possible idea for it. Some parts where you use sharp movement I think you should pause in that moment, cut the music and focus on the sharp pose for a second, and then move on to the more fluid movement. Doing that can really make those sharp movements even more spectacular.
Hope this helps, and I can't wait to see this on film.
I see distinct sharpness is the movements that you especially like (I like them too), but the 'necessity' movements like preparations for turns or pivots have less clarity. The hanging and swinging movements must have a stopping or ending point to give those movements completion. You are blending jazz styles and modern seamlessly - good job. Think about intention or mood of the dance, so the dancers can truly perform it top notch. I see dramatic camera shots - like a long shot and super quick zoom into a closeup and edits like closeup of face cut away to full body shot or vice versa. The music works well, but remember that it will need to be edited as well for YouTube copyright reasons.
hey julia! this looks really good! i love the music a lot!!!! you have a really clear base phrase and movement which work. i would maybe play around with slowing some movement down or adding random moments of stillness when you play around with the phrase. i cant wait to see how this turns out!!!

You look like you are enjoying the movement you are performing and that itself seems to match up with the jazzy/chicago-esque idea you are going for. As always, the qualities of your movements and your movements are crystal clear. There is a lot of fast and constant, perhaps some moments of stillness would highlight them even further? I like to imagine this movement on many dancers, as you mentioned you are working with six dancers. Excited to see what that will look like. Keep up the good work! :-)
Hey Julia, first off wow you did that girl, yes with your movement quality and the energy. I enjoy watching the explosive movement you got going on. The only thing I’ll say play around with different facing but other than that great job I can’t wait to see more Also Think about location and costumes
Hi Julia! First, I just wanted to say that your smile at the end of the "Curtain Call" phrase made my day. I am extremely excited to see this piece finished. Your phrases are very big and exciting. It made me want to get up and dance. I am curious to know if your choreographing this piece on yourself, or if you have dancers? If you do, how many are there total? Also, what location do you plan on using again? Great work! :)
Hi Taylor! Thank you very much! I am working with an additional 6 dancers, and I plan to blend together solo sections of myself and varying in size group sections. We only had our first in person rehearsal last night so they're working on the phrases still. I plan on using the proscenium if possible! I will not only be using the stage, but also the backstage area and the audience seating.
This piece is a lot of fun and shows your character and style of dance well. There are unique movements as well which is rare for a “jazzy” dance so congrats on that! <3
