Overall, you all are on the right path. I am seeing some strong ideas and am truly excited to see more! Feel free to contact Taner (filming/editing), Tom (space reservations/lighting/filming ideas), or me (anything and everything project-related) for questions.
I wanted to let you know that Tatyanna Hall has dropped the class, so there are just eight choreographers in this group now.
In the self-assessment form these issues were the most common: (1) Zoom rehearsals, (2) editing sound/music, and (3) articulating quality and timing to cast members.
Zoom rehearsals: An alternative to a Zoom rehearsal could be to record yourself doing the movement. including any necessary explanation about execution. Send the recording to the dancers, and let them learn it on their own. Then, review it in live rehearsals.
I can help anyone with music/sound editing. Feel free to contact me on my post - 'Music/Sound Editing Assistance" in this forum. You can upload your music and any additional sources on the mentioned post with instructions. We can also communicate back and forth there and/or all other ways that suit you best.
Explaining thoughts is an art form, especially explaining music quality and timing. Experience will ultimately pave your niche for such a thing. I use a lot of metaphors to describe quality and timing, and I believe that it helps dancers understand the clearest. Example: "move as if you are walking through molasses in winter." Also, don't be nervous about telling a dancer that their intension needs to be a certain way or the way they are doing the movement should, rather, be another way. Doing this with kindness is the best rout to take. With that said, don't be too married to a particular movement choice. Have some flexibility and allow movement that best suits your dancer. After all, they are representing your work, so allow them to shine with what they do best, too.
Also, I am really liking this setup for showings and feedback. Everything is neatly in one place, where anyone can go back and reference comments and material. It also seems a bit easier on everyone to film and show as well as write out feedback rather than having those live showings from the past. Do you agree that this may be an improvement for DANC 390?
