Kay Athanasidy -- I am
I am late afternoon walks along the hudson river front with my mother,Â
and zeppole and sfinge in hand.Â
I am made of late nights scrambling to catch the last metronorth after opera rehearsals with my sisterÂ
and waking up at 7am to have breakfast with my brother before his sports practice.Â
Part of me is still the scared sixteen year old dropping out of highschool
When her lungs couldn’t bear it.
But another part of me is 11 years old spending summer weekends in the bronxÂ
doing cartwheels through WavehillÂ
with my grandparents calling after me.Â
I sometimes miss the version of myself who had just moved upstate,Â
and found friends to walk through the snow withÂ
in a social distanced world.Â
I am bits and pieces of all these things,Â
but above all I am still learning.
